What Is Pet Quarantine?
Animal quarantine is an inspection by the veterinary authority during the production and circulation of animals, in order to detect infectious diseases and parasites of animals that are already present or not yet present in the country; infectious diseases and parasites of farmed animals subject to international quarantine and diseases that must be checked under trade, exchange or aid agreements signed with foreign countries; and to check for toxins, hormones and antibiotics harmful to humans and animals, in order to protect production and public health.

Pet Quarantine Procedures for Transport Abroad
For your pet to "take flight" to a new land, you need to prepare the following documents:
- An application for an animal quarantine certificate at the Department of Animal Health.
- A health record book proving full vaccination, especially the rabies vaccine. The book must have the veterinarian's full name and signature and clear, specific vaccination dates. For the rabies shot in particular, cats and dogs must be vaccinated at least 30 days in advance to reach the required antibody level. The rabies shot is only valid for under 12 months; if more than 12 months have passed, you must give your pet a booster shot.
- A copy of the first page of the passport of the person carrying the pet.
- After the declaration is complete, the animal quarantine officer will examine your cat or dog's health, check the rabies vaccination validity, and compare the description of the cat or dog or check the microchip number as the basis for issuing the Animal Health Certificate.
Time Frame for Processing the Application
Within 01 working day of receiving a valid application, the organization or individual registering for quarantine is notified of the location and time for carrying out the quarantine;
Within 05 working days from the start of the quarantine, if the quarantine requirements are met, a Quarantine Certificate is issued; if it takes longer than 05 working days, or if a Quarantine Certificate is not issued, a written notice and reply stating the reasons must be provided.
The Procedure for Carrying Out Pet Quarantine
Step 1: Before exporting animals or animal products subject to quarantine, the owner must register for quarantine with the Regional Animal Health Office, the Regional Animal Quarantine Sub-Department under the Department of Animal Health, or the provincial-level sub-department with specialized veterinary management functions authorized by the Department of Animal Health (hereinafter referred to as the border-gate animal quarantine authority).
Step 2: Within 01 working day of receiving a valid application, the competent authority decides and notifies the organization or individual registering for quarantine of the location and time for carrying out the quarantine;
Step 3: Within 05 working days from the start of the quarantine, if the quarantine requirements are met, the competent authority issues a Quarantine Certificate; if it takes longer than 05 working days, or if a Quarantine Certificate is not issued, a written notice and reply stating the reasons must be provided.
